Vince Guaraldi wrote the score for the Charlie Brown Christmas special after being discovered by cartoonist Charles Shultz (Peanuts comic writer) and Lee Mendelson (producer of the special). Shultz and Mendelson were in a taxi cab on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California listening to a live club perfomance of 'Cast Your Fate to the Wind' by Vince Guaraldi trio and demanded to be taken to the club immediately. They proposed Guaraldi write the score for the special and he accepted.
