Yes, comics, while a form of literature, do not of themselves expose your developing mind to the range of forms that the written work can take. You teacher is trying to get you to appreciate the beauty of a written novel, poetry, learned essays etc. As an adult you may still like comics but this should be a choice and not just because comics are the ONLY thing you ever tried to read.
