Without requiring an overweight permit, some can.. some are light enough. Most usually will not be.
22 to 25 tons, typically.
It isn't. An 18 wheeler can typically haul 22 - 25 tons of freight. A one ton pickup can haul one ton (a typically passenger car, much less). Both vehicles will get between five and eight miles per gallon. However, one 18 wheeler is going to use much less fuel to transport 22 - 25 tons of freight than 22 - 25 pickups are going to use to transport one ton of freight each.
The norm will be between 22 and 25 tons.
25 short ton pr segment
Could be as cheap as $2 (1 axle) to $25 (18 wheeler) or your life.

Vehicular loads are typically based on the AASHTO H-25 or HS-25configuration, Figure 2-2, which represents a 25 ton (222 kN) semi-truck.Some specifiers use an H-20 or HS-20 load; the load distribution is thesame as an H-25 or HS-25, but the resulting load is about 20% lower.Similarly in railroad applications, the standard load is represented by theCooper E-80 configuration at 80,000 lbs/ft (1167 kN/m) of trackAASHTO H-25 Highway Load-The intensity of the vehicular load decreases as the depth increases, however, the area over which the force acts increases.Live LoadsVehicular loads are typically based on the AASHTO H-25 or HS-25 configuration, Figure 2-2, which represents a 25 ton (222 kN) semi-truck. An 18-wheeler truck typically emits significantly more pollution than a car. This is due to the larger engine size and heavier weight of the truck. On average, an 18-wheeler can emit between 4 to 8 times more pollution than a car, depending on the specific models and driving conditions.
