yes dirty injectors will cause black smoke.
basically the black smoke is unburnt fuel
dirty injectors usually mean dirty pump as well, but if ya pump is turned up for performance, this will also cause blck smoke
a good dose of injector cleaner thru the system will usually fix, if that's the problem.a little tip, double does it, it will not hurt the system.
possible, but rare.
It is the high temp and the high return Pressure inside the injector that causes the fuel To turn black
No.
Gasoline will not dissolve the carbon deposits that clog the injectors but it will cause your engine to not start.
Leaking injectors.
Leaking injectors that are allowing fuel to flow after shutdown, will allow fuel to flow into the cylinder. This fuel will mix with the oil and dilute it's lubricrating ability. This will cause engine wear and will eventually cause serious engine damage.

The most likely cause of low-power, when under load, in your Cummins N14 diesel engine is a lack of fuel. The problem can also be a lack of air flow.
Turning the fuel screw on a Cummins will determine the fuel flow tot he engine. If the screw is set too high of low then the engine will not run properly and could cause engine damage.
Black smoke is caused by the engine ~not~ burning all of its fuel. The most common cause of incomplete fuel burn is a clogged air filter, exhaust system (muffler) or injectors covered with carbon build-up. Another cause is too much fuel entering the engine to be burned due to either bad calibration or too heavy a load.
