First, you need to evacuate the refrigerant and PAG oil. This, you'll need to go to a shop for, since you're not going to find shade tree 'mechanics' with the equipment necessary for this. Don't just discharge it into the air - aside from being illegal, it's also very dangerous.

Once that's done, you get a set of fuel line disconnects to detach the refrigerant lines from the compressor. Additionally, you'll need to replace the receiver-drier, which contains a desiccant to ensure that only refrigerant still in vapor form will move on to the compressor - this desiccant will become fully saturated and useless within a few minutes of exposure to atmospheric air.

Put some of your PAG oil into the compressor before you put it back on... the rest can be loaded when you recharge the system. I'd recommend you put the rest into your new receiver-drier and immediately replug the opening once you've done this.

Put the compressor back on first, then the receiver-drier... you need to move fast when putting the receiver-drier back on, as it's pretty much a race against the clock. Unplug one fitting at a time and get the refrigerant lines hooked back up quickly.

Once all of this is done, replace your belt(s), and recharge your system.
