Like any other cooling system on any other vehicle. The coolant absorbs the heat from the engine block, becomes superheated, then transfers that heat to the air which passes through the radiator fins.

Not 100% sure about the Toyota truck, but I had that same problem with a late 90's Chevy. Turned out to be the clutch fan ($25 part) after I had replaced almost everything in the cooling system.

You cannot adjust the clutch. It is hydraulic, with a master cylinder and slave cylinder in the transmission. Their are no adjustments. Make sure system has fluid and no leaks.
