Ford had four engines in the 5000, the 233 cubic inch displacement (cid) gas and diesel and the 265 cid gas and diesel engines. They also had two transmissions, an 8-speed manual and the Select-O-Speed, kind of an automatic transmission. I have a 1972 265 cid gas with the 8 speed transmission.

To check the hydraulic oil on a Ford 5000 tractor, locate the hydraulic oil reservoir, which is typically found on the right side of the tractor near the rear. Remove the dipstick from the reservoir and wipe it clean, then reinsert it and remove it again to check the oil level. The oil should be within the marked range on the dipstick; if it's low, add the appropriate hydraulic oil until it reaches the correct level. Always ensure the tractor is on level ground for an accurate reading.
The Ford 5000 tractor typically requires around 10 to 12 gallons of hydraulic fluid, depending on the specific model and configuration. Always refer to the owner's manual for precise specifications and recommendations regarding hydraulic fluid capacity and type. Proper maintenance and timely fluid changes are crucial for optimal performance.
