High/Low Range To enable a 4WD to travel at lower speeds while traveling on rough terrain it needs lower gear ratios. Not all 4WD's have low range gearing and this restricts their ability to tackle rough terrain. However 4WD's that lack low range gearing are generally not built for severe off-road conditions or sometimes have a "crawler" 1st gear to compensate for the lack of low range gearing. The high range ratios in 4WD mode are the same as the gear ratios in 2WD. When low range 4WD is selected, the gear ratios are approximately half that of high range, although the exact ratio varies for each vehicle manufacturer. For example this means that if an engine speed of 3000 rpm in high range fourth gear is 65 mph, then in low range at the same engine speed and the same gear, the speed would be around 30 mph. Some points to note about low range gearing are: * You cannot select low range in 2WD mode in most cases. * You do not have to use low range as soon as you put the vehicle in 4WD, but only if the terrain requires it. * On most vehicles you have to be stationary when changing from high to low range, check your owners manual for your particular vehicle.
Press the low range button again, or turn the 4x4 off all together.
the fuse is blown.
Try putting gear shift into "neutral" and then shift out of 4x4
Might be a 4x4 cable on front axle. Disconnect it from the actuator or where it runs to underneath the battery. Once the cable is unhooked, it can not be in 4x4.
On a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac : In the center stack of the dash , to the left of the radio , you will see a rotary dial . It shows ( 2WD / 4X4 HIGH / 4X4 LOW ) The 4X4 positions are not to be used on DRY pavement As long as the rear wheels are not spinning you can select 4X4 HIGH for use in snow , sand , gravel , etcetera If you want to select 4X4 LOW , with your foot on the brake pedal , engine running , shift to neutral , select 4X4 LOW ( wait until you hear a click ) then put it in gear
Lock your hubs and put the car in neutral, then push the 4X4 button, same thing with low range
4X4 High: Slow to under 5 M.P.H., let off on gas, grasp 4X4 lever and securely put in 4-High. 4X4 Low: Stop vehicle, put in nutreul, grasp 4X4 lever and securely put in 4-low.
Xtreme 4x4 - 2001 Low Dollar Wheeler Off-Road was released on: USA: October 2011
4 wheel low is for slower 4x4 driving and more rough terrain. 4 wheel high is for faster driving like driving in the snow and ice or through a trail with a little bit of slick mud on it.
Not very low. The drive gear will get in the way. Not very low. The drive gear will get in the way.
For the control trac 4x4 system , just to the right of the radio are buttons showing 4x4 auto , 4x4 high , 4x4 low ( on a 2002 Ford Explorer )
4x4 will jerk when accel. especially while turning. It is alot of torque on all four wheels pulling at the same time. You should only accel slowly with 4x4 on, especially in 4x4 low.
