Most of the newer trucks average around 6 mpg. My 1984 International Cabover with a 300hp BC3 got 5.5 mpg and my 1985 Freightliner Cabover with a 3406 310hp caterpillar got closer to 6 mpg. My 1996 Peterbilt 377 got a lifetime average of 7.3 mpg with a S60 Detroit 500 hp.

The 2010 diesel will not get good mileage. 14-16 on the highway and 10-12 around town. The gas (I assume your talking v10) will get you about 9-10 around town and 13-15 on the highway. If you want better mileage I would go for a 2011. The new 6.7 diesel gets much better mileage (up to 20+ on the highway in some cases)

If you tend to do more highway driving, you will likely get better gas mileage by driving a vehicle with a diesel engine. Modern diesel engines run very smoothly, reliably, and cleanly. They also have the advantage of being less complicated than a hybrid vehicle while getting comparable highway mileage. City mileage in a diesel vehicle will be better than a regular car but not quite as good as a hybrid.
