In many cases, a fork truck driver needs no personal protective equipment. In some cases, where the driver is working near areas where hazardous materials may be in the air, everyone - not just the driver- may require protection appropriate to the specific hazardous materials present.

Many fork truck drivers will wear industrial safety glasses to protect eye sight, and industrial safety shoes to protect their toes from falling objects of intermediate weight. Sometimes they will also use some form of hearing protection, but in some locations this is not desirable as it can reduce the ability to hear other people or machines near by
