Transmissions
it should be the 700r4 4 speed auto no 4l60 or 4l80
4l60-e
No it will not work in a 1997 Chevy 1500. First the case doesn't have the bosses for the neutral safety switch which is on the drivers side of the case. Second the solenoids inside the transmission are different for 1997 and 1993. Third the wiring harness inside the transmission is different for 1993 and 1997.
4l60, 4l60e ,700r4
4l60 or a 4l80
Automatic? Probably the 700R4. The 700R4 was replaced by the 4L60-E in 1993 in the 1500 series.
No it will not even BOLT UP to the 20OO year engine block. Chevy redesigned the transmissions and engine blocks in late 1999. Will not interchange.
4L60 is the most common automatic transmission
95 was first year the electronic transmissin was used on GM trucks. 7/9/08 no, 1993 was the first year for the electronic transmission on the Chevy 1500. It has the 4L60e transmission. Prior to that it was the 4L60 and the 700r4. On the 2500 series truck it has the 4L60e or the 4L80e.
700r4 82-87, 4L60 88-92
I believe it is a 4L60-E, the upgraded 700-R4, although I do not know for sure.
4L60-E OR 4L-80E DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF TRUCK 4L60E HAS 16 PAN BOLTS 4L80E HAS 17 PAN BOLTS NEW ANSWER: If it is a 1/2 ton then it MUST have a 1996 or 1997 4L60E put in it. NO OTHER YEARS WILL WORK. If it is a 3/4 ton then it MUST have the 4L80E put in it and NO other years will work.
