Lalor, did not escape on Father Smyth's horse, he had been lying wounded for an hour under a pile of slabs, drifting in, and out of conciousness from the loss of blood, and would therefore have been completely unable to sit astride a horse, let alone ride out to Warrenheip, and return, all the time losing more blood.
