Open-cut mining: In Open-cut mining, surface rocks and layers of earth are stripped away using really big shifters. Over a long period of time the mine is excavated in layers, which are known as benches.
Underground mining:Underground mining is for gold's that are well below a surface. In underground mining, miners are lowered in to the shaft in large cages, in a horizontal tunnel, which is known as stopes. Stopes are dug at different depths and miner's work along these to access the gold.
