Her husband, Ninoy, was kidnapped, imprisoned, tortured, exiled - to keep him from doing journalistic revelations regarding Marcos' graft and corruption. He was killed in Manila International Airport and his death opened the eyes of millions of Filipinos throughout the world of what was going on.

Yellow then became the symbol of this freedom... this freedom from being exiled, this freedom from the Marcoses. Like the song: "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree," the Filipinos actually tied yellow ribbons around trees all throughout the country.
