Both POP3 and IMAP4 are protocols used for retrieving emails from a mail server, but they differ significantly in functionality. POP3 downloads emails to a local device and typically removes them from the server, making it less suitable for accessing emails from multiple devices. In contrast, IMAP4 allows users to view emails directly on the server, enabling synchronization across multiple devices and maintaining the folder structure. This makes IMAP4 more flexible for users who need to access their email from various locations.
Internet Message Access Protocol(IMAP) was developed by Mark Crispin in 1986. It is a protocol for email retrieval and storage as an alternative to POP.
The major advantage is that, IMAP shows you a copy of the email you receive unlike POP where the email you receive is being downloaded to your computer first and deleting the copy on the server.(POP is usually being used in stand-alone email client software like Thunderbird) So you see, if accidentally something terrific happens to your computer and you will have no option other than formatting and reinstalling your Operating System, you will loose the emails. But the stand-alone email clients will ask whether you want to download only a copy of the emails you receive preserving the original mail on the server.
POP (Post Office Protocol) allows users to download emails from a server to their local device, which can be advantageous for offline access and storage savings on the server. However, it limits access to emails from multiple devices, as messages are often deleted from the server after downloading. IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol), on the other hand, syncs emails across all devices, making it easier to manage messages from anywhere. The downside is that it requires continuous internet access and may consume more server space since emails remain stored on the server.
POP and Listserv serve two different functions. POP is an acronym for Post Office Protocol. It is the language used between an email program, a POP client, and the ISP's POP server. Listserv is a commercial mailing list management system that allows you to subscribe to or create, manage, and control an electronic mailing list.
With a PoP, you are only connecting to one company's network. In an IXP, you have the ability to peer with many different networks.

SMTP - 25, 465, and 587 POP - 109, 110, and 995 IMAP - 143, 220, and 993
Because IMAP stores email on the server side and POP does not, IMAP requires more storage space than POP does.
I'm not sure how to set it up on that individual client, but here's some important information: If it works with an IMAP (IMAP4) server, go to your Gmail settings, go to the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab and make sure 'Enable IMAP' is selected. Click 'Save Changes.' If not, select 'Disable IMAP' and 'Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded).' (Receiving mail and custom folders) IMAP server: imap.gmail.com IMAP port: 995. (Receiving mail) POP server: pop.gmail.com POP port: 995 (Sending mail) SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com SMTP port: 465 (This is very important, as this is NOT the default port for SMTP)! If this is wrong, try Gmail>Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab>Configuration instructions. Hope this was helpful!

Because of pop, imap and smtp
IMAP and POP have fun in IT 302 :)

Google uses IMAP protocol for email. It is because of better security settings. Gmail has tried to improve it's security settings everyday.
Some similarities between pop music & classical music are that they are played by humans. Also they both have notes. They are both types of music
