A home area network is a version of a local area network, but is restricted to a smaller area which is typically just one dwelling. A local area network is a similarly small area network but may be larger to encompass a few buildings such as office premises or a school with several buildings.

Full Form of LAN : Local Area Network. The use of LAN (Local Area Network) two or more computers connected with in geographical location
In each case, the 'W' stands for wireless, but these connections can be wired as well. The difference is in the range or size of the network: 'PAN' stands for 'personal area network,' and refers to any network with a range of about 5m, such as Bluetooth, etc. 'LAN' stands for 'local area network.' This refers to any network infrastructure belonging to the same segment of a network. A home network would be an example of a LAN. 'NAN' stands for 'near-me area network.' This refers to a network that deals with devices in relatively close proximity to one another, although the data path of the network may not necessarily be short. This network type isn't as widely used as the others, so it is often overlooked, but an example would be a messaging service that broadcasts to others in the same area. 'MAN' stands for 'Metropolitan Area Network.' This refers to a network infrastructure that has the range of a city. It is a little bit like a long-range LAN. An example would be a network belonging to a company with offices in different parts of the city. The main distinction is that a MAN is within the size of a metropolitan area but too large to be considered a LAN. 'WAN' stands for 'Wide Area Network.' Generally, any network used to transmit data over long distances, or between localized networks such as LANS, is considered a WAN. An example of a WAN would be an ISP, connecting many home networks to the Internet. There are other network types (such as CAN for Campus Area Network or BAN for Body Area Network), but PAN, LAN, NAN, MAN, and WAN are the most common.
The communication between hosts X and Y being restricted to the local network is likely due to network segmentation or isolation protocols, such as VLANs or subnetting, which prevent traffic from flowing outside a designated area. This can enhance security by limiting exposure to external threats and ensuring that sensitive data remains within a controlled environment. Additionally, it may be a result of firewall settings or routing configurations that restrict access to only local devices.
1. How might a distributed database designed for a local area network differ from one designed for a wide area network?
GWAN = Gigabit WAN WAN = Wide Area Network LAN = Local Area Network WLAN = Wireless Local Area Network MAN = Metropolitan Area Network
local area network is only for small area and wireless local area network is for one building.
LAN is the Local Area Network while the WAN is the Wide Area Network.
They're the same thing. A Local Area Network (LAN) and a workgroup are both a local and they both do the same thing. I think the main difference is that a workgroup is a specific part of the LAN such as a department of a business whereas a LAN describes the network.

LAN = Local Area Network (this is local, in your own computer network) WAN = Wide Area Network (this is wide, most of the time this means the internet)
WAN is a wide area network. It covers a broad area.LAN means local area network. Its range is within a limited area such as home, school or building.
A router.
LAN stands for Local Area Network & WAN stands for Wide Area Network.
Local Area Network
They all stand for some kind of computer area networks:- LAN's = Local Area Network, WAN's = Wide Area Network, MAN's = Metropolitan Area Network, HAN's = Home Area Network.
