Body language is something that humans pick up from experience. For example, if we see that a person is avoiding eye contact while speaking to someone, it must mean they are lying about something. This kind if communication is valuable because it can be held against that person, even if they don't realize that they had just done it. However, silence is very intimidating, because at the moment when someone stops speaking, you know that they must be thinking about their next move (perhaps fight or flight mode). Silence is also the opportunity to think about what to do in the opposition's perspective.
