Direct and Indirect DeliveryForwarded IP packets use at least one of two types of delivery based on whether the IP packet is forwarded to the final destination or whether it is forwarded to an IP router. These two types of delivery are known as direct and indirect delivery.Direct delivery occurs when the IP node (either the sending node or an IP router) forwards a packet to the final destination on a directly attached network. The IP node encapsulates the IP datagram in a frame format for the Network Interface layer (such as Ethernet or Token Ring) addressed to the destination's physical address.Indirect delivery occurs when the IP node (either the sending node or an IP router) forwards a packet to an intermediate node (an IP router) because the final destination is not on a directly attached network. The IP node encapsulates the IP datagram in a frame format, addressed to the IP router's physical address, for the Network Interface layer (such as Ethernet or Token Ring).IP routing is a combination of direct and indirect deliveries.In Figure 1.14, when sending packets to node B, node A performs a direct delivery. When sending packets to node C, node A performs an indirect delivery to Router 1. Router 1 performs an indirect delivery to Router 2. Router 2 performs a direct delivery to node C.

A gateway is a node (a router) on a computer network that serves as an access point to another network.A Default Gateway is the node on the computer network that is chosen when the IP address does not belong to any other entities in the Routing Table. In homes, the gateway is usually the ISP-provided device that connects the user to the internet, such as a DSL or cable modem. In enterprises, however, the gateway is the node that routes the traffic from a workstation to another network segment. The default gateway is commonly used to be the node connecting the internal networks and the outside network (Internet). In such a situation, the gateway node could act as a proxy server and a firewall. The gateway is also associated with both a router, which uses headers and forwarding tables to determine where packets are sent, and a switch, which provides the actual path for the packet in and out of the gateway. In other words, it is an entry point and an exit point in a network.

RDI stands for Remote Defect Indication. RDI Alarms comes when a node is not receiving the signal from the corresponding Node, but only transmits. As this Alarm comes on Physical Layer, hence the Alarm can be rectify by cleaning/replacing the Patch Cords/Electrical Jumper Wires.
Session Layer, this layer helps out with the task to carry information from one node (workstation) to another node (workstation). A session has to be made before we can transport information to another computer.
Node
A receiving node refers to a point in a network or system that accepts data, signals, or resources from another node. In the context of telecommunications or computer networks, it processes incoming information and may relay it to other nodes or systems. Essentially, it acts as a destination for transmitted data, facilitating communication and data exchange within the network.
It distributes temporary IP addresses to each node.
the responibilty of physcial layer is to move data(bits) from one node to another in the form of electro manetic signal.
An Outlet has two nodes, one is positive and one is negative. You will not feel anything to a negative node and it is for receiving the supply of electricity released from positive node. As you connect a appliance to outlet the electricity has to pass through out that appliance to reach to the negative node.
