dhcp and bootp both runs over UDP. DHCP is based on bootp with some backward compatibility. BOOTP was designed for pre configuration of host information in a databse server.................................while DHCP allows for dynamic addressing ( network addresses) configuration for newly attached hosts.

with addition DHCP allows for recovery and reallocating network addresses through leasing mechanism...

RARP and BOOTP protocol do not gives the four characteristics required. DHCP on the other hand is dynamic and gives all the four address.
