Jet drives have been proposed for auxiliary propulsion for sailboats on and off since the 1930s, perhaps earlier. The chief advantage would be minimum drag under sail; no prop, no strut, no shaft. Some racers have even tried a closure flap over the flush inlet hole. This leaves an absolutely smooth hull when under sail. There is, though, no special advantage with regard to engine placement; the engine and drive shaft have to be located to connect to the impeller as directly as possible to minimize power losses. Using a pump that is separate from the engine wastes too much horsepower. Unfortunately, the laws of physics make jet drive extremely inefficient for boats that operate at less than 25 knots, and that includes all sailboats.

Which function on PWC will not operate at idle speed?

A PWC or Jet Ski has a water Jet propulsion system. With this system the Jet drive is used for propulsion and steering. Jet drives dont turn without using the throttle unless moving very slow and even then it is limited.

What is a yacht with water vapor propulsion as well as sails?

Most yachts employ both a propulsion device and sails.

What is the fuction of a squids water jet?

The water jet is a means of propulsion.

What is the mechanism of propulsion on a Sea Doo?

Sea Doo personal watercraft, like almost all similar types of personal water vehicles, use a jet propulsion system rather than a traditional propeller motor like that on a standard boat. In jet propulsion, a water pump is powered by the engine to build up a set amount of pressure and when that pressure is released it causes the craft to be propelled into motion.

Why does a sailboat float?

A sailboat will have positive buoyancy if the weight of the boat is less than the weight of the water it takes the place of. The weight of the water that is being occupied by the hull is displacement.

What does propulsion have to do with swimming?

Propulsion has everything to do with swimming!! if it wasn't for propulsion you wouldn't move through the water. three elements of propulsion in swimming are:Pull- the stroke pulls through the water and creates propulsionKick- the kick is another important element that creates propulsionbody position- although this doesn't create propulsion adjusting the body position in the stroke reduces drag and allows the propulsion created in the kick and pull of the stroke to propel the swimmer through the water.hope this helps

What are the main function of tails on a fish?

Mainly balance and locomotion. Some use them to attract a mate.

What observations led Czarnowski to form his hypothesis about marine propulsion?

MIT researcher James Czarnowski made observations of penguins swimming. He observed how quickly and easily the penguins moved through the water. By 1997, he had designed a "flapping" propulsion system that was more efficient than propellers.

Why do you think the feet of this bird is webbed?

So that it can get maximum propulsion in water.
