The BIOS configuration screen is accessed by pressing a key or key combination when the computer first powers on or reboots, while it is running a POST (Power On Self Test). The only time you can access this program is when the POST screen appears. It may be a company logo, such as HP or Dell, or it may be a black screen with messages like "Checking Memory...". You have anywhere from 2-5 seconds on most computers to access the setup screen before the BIOS starts the boot process. Some older computers test RAM before booting, and you may have 10-20 seconds on these systems if a large amount of memory is installed. The specific keypress may or may not be on the screen. Common keys for accessing the setup screen are ESC, F1, F2, F10, F12, or Del. You may need to refer to the user manual for the motherboard to determine the correct keypress.

It depends on what type of p.c. you are using. On most dells you have to hit f2 at the start up screen. Some p.c.'s are f8 some are del. normally they will say to hit "this key" for setup.
