In a active heatsink system you have both a heatsink and a fan thus for the most part an active heatsink cools better with one exception. Should the fan fail the active heatsink will quickly overheat.

Passive heatsinks relay on transferring heat without the aid of a fan. The advantage here is that a passive heatsink is fail proof and uses 0 electricity, however passive heatsinks don't typical cool as well.

Passive heatsinks work great for supporting chips and RAM cooling. They are also found in servers because of the no fail aspect.

EnzoTech produces some passive heatsinks you can read a bit more about them here:

How does active termination improve upon passive termination?

In active termination scheme it removes the thermal noise which results in the passive termination due to the end resistors..

Difference between active and passive components?

ACTIVE COMPONENTS The components which produce the energy in the form of current or voltage are called as active components. Example:transistors etc,. PASSIVE COMPONENTS The components which stores the energy in the form of current or voltage are called as passive components. example:inductors, resistors, capacitors etc,. Is diode an active or passive device?

An active device is a device that takes input energy to operate. The only energy a diode uses is from the signal applied to it (it has one input, one output, and no other terminals), so it is a passive device. To be an active device, a separate power source must be applied to it - such as the case for operation amplifiers, for example.

Difference between active and passive threats?

Passive attack: So in passive attack a hacker intrudes your system, and waits for some valuable information. An example could be: A keylogger which sends the input given by the victim to a hacker via a network(LAN or Internet whatever). Active attack: In an active attack a hacker tries to get the valuable information by using his abilities rather than depending on the stupidity of the victim. An example could be: Using Brute force to crack the password of a system. Answered by: 21st Ninja GOD
