Server computers are just slimmed down desktop alot of times. They don't have the fast graphics cards, etc. that a desktop has. They typically have a large amount of system memory, a large harddrive, and a multitasking cpu. The real important thing about most servers which makes them reliable is the fact that many of them operate on what is called RAID. They have multiple harddrives in the system that hold multiple copies of the same data. If one drive fails the other one can pick up where the old one left off and the system isn't compromised. You can do the same thing with your standard desktop, but most people don't want to spend the money on the extra drives required for this.

Six basic categories of computers: - Embedded computers - Mobile devices - Personal computers - Midrange servers - Mainframe computers - Supercomputers
A server computer serves other computers (in a network) with programs and/or files. Think of it like a cafeteria. You get your tray (computer), walk down the line (pull down the file menu), when you see something you need or want you ask for it to be put on your tray (downloaded to your desktop computer). Your desktop computer is the same as a personal computer.
A server is a computer that provides services (hints the word server) such as a mail server or a web server. They are the building blocks of the computer world as we know it. That is why they are air conditioned and cared for.
Server
Desktop computers are intended to use at home or at office at the same place. they don't have integrated the screen, keyboard and mouse Server computers are designed to be used to be a server (such as a web server, sql server or other) Laptop computers are made for taking them to travel. they are smaller and they have screen, keyboard and mouse integrated hope this helps
Xeon is for servers with server-motherboards Quad core is for desktop computers
For situations where there are work group computers that are fed by a main computer, Windows server software is able to configure and control the network. The client computers can receive programs and applications from the server computer. The tasks of the server computer includes recognizing each of the client computers as specific machines within the server's domain. The server computer can dispense print permissions and application permissions to each of the client computers.
By using Remote Desktop Sharing software like Team Viewer, Logme in, VNC Server , you can work on other computers remotely.
Not only can Linux be run on desktop computers, but it can also be run on servers and other types of computers such as tablets and embedded computers. Linux is an open source operating system that is based on Unix, and Unix was first used for computer server applications.
Computer server: A computer that manages centralized data storage or network communications resources. A server provides and organizes access to these resources for other computers linked to it.When a a computer can manage efficiently all those resources, it will be a powerful server. Note that behind a computer must have skilled operators.
You can install a server OS on it.
The desktop version is one in which certain server components are not installed because the desktop version is viewed as a personal user system, unlike a server.
Ram upgrades are easy to do if the the computer is a desktop. If your computer is a laptop then it will be a lot harder to switch out your ram. However desktop computers are much easy and can be done at home.
NTP (Network Time Protocol) is a network protocol used to synchronize computers with a time server. The time server's job is to provide the correct time based on an atomic clock. NTP is useful in desktop computers, important in file or web servers, and vital in certain scientific applications.
Because using a network, linked by a server means you only nee one copy of software. Each computer on the network accesses the software on the server - instead of having to load it onto individual machines.
1.With server OS we can manage desktop OS. Server Os is higher version of Desktop OS. 2.server OS gives centralised administration for users shared resources higher security. But Desktop OS gives local machine administration only. 3.Server OS is fully covered & managed security. For (ex) Domain Controller application server print server etc. We make server with security. for Desktop OS Normal PC. We make low level security.
