With a video camera, and a bunch of friends, you can do nearly anything.

The first basic steps is this:

1. Write a plot. This is a story that you are going to film.

2. Draw a storyboard. This shows what the video might look like. It can show camera angles/movement.

3. Film it. Make sure your friends want to film your story and be a part of it. Otherwise its gonna lead to a whole bunch of arguments.

4. Edit it. This is when you put your footage into the computer and make it one long video. Simple editing software are Windows Movie Maker and iMovie on mac. If you are using a DSLR, I suggest Adobe Premiere Pro in the Adobe Master Collection.

5. Release it. Post on YouTube, Facebook, anywhere!

Some beginner filming tips

Shots in a scene rarely last more than a few seconds. When filming a scene with dialogue, try having two cameras, one on each end of the conversation.

There are three basic camera movements:

-Pan (going left to right/right to left)

-Till (up and down)

-Dolly (moving the camera around,probably on wheels or tracks)

These three movements should be planned out in the storyboard.

I suggest you always use a tripod, except when you want to have the shaky footage you get in documentaries. If you want a good easy dolly, just put the tripod on a rolling chair.

Other than that, only thing that restricts you is your creativity. Go film!
