If it is a good password, then it can help a great deal. Depending on the length and complexity of the password, it can take an attacker months, if not years on a super computer to crack a challenging password. There is no such thing as a completely secure system, but having a good password can certainly stall an attack for some time.
They will be able to see that it exists, but they will not be able to access it unless they know the decryption password or do a "brute-force" attack on it, by having a program test every possible password.
Example One: A Hacker getting your computer's password by use of a brute-force attack. Example Two: A Hacking gaining access to a database by cracking the encrypted password.
It depends what the password is for. A 'good' password should consist of at least 10 characters. It should be a mixture of letters and numbers - but NOT something that could be guessed by someone who knows you. For example - the password I use to access my bank account online... has ten characters - and comprises 6 letters and 4 digits. I have NEVER revealed it to anyone - which makes guessing it almost impossible !Whatever password you choose - it should be something that you can easily remember - but nothing too obvious. How abut the name of your first pet... plus the year you were born.Just for reference... a 10-digit alphanumeric password has...3,656,158,440,062,976 possible combinations !

The chance of guessing a password right depends on the length and complexity of the password. If it is a simple password with only a few characters or common patterns, the chance of guessing it correctly can be relatively high. However, with longer and more complex passwords that include a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters, the chance of guessing it right becomes extremely low.
Password guessing is usually more of an art or a brute force method of cracking a password. As such it doesn't require much sophistication - anyone can guess at passwords - but it is extremely limited and unlikely to correctly guess passwords created with proper complexity.
Brute ForceAnswer Explanation: There are several types of password guessing attacks. Dictionary and Brute Force attacks are the most commonly used types. Dictionary attacks use dictionary lists and language databases to track passwords. Brute Force attacks use CPU and memory power to make password-guessing attacks against secure network resources. Brute Force attacks are able to create straightforward alphabet passwords much faster than short alphanumeric passwords, even at 256 characters. The opposite is true of dictionary attacks.
Guessing passwords is highly frowned on, and is also illegal.
