It sounds hard by it is quite easy in reality. You simply play the video file and while your playing it take a screenshot of it by pressing 'Print Screen SysRq' on your keyboard which is on the right of the 'F12' key or above the 'Insert' key. This copies the screen you're on at that very moment. Then just open MS Paint and Paste and save it.
Alternatively, I recommend you try PCHand Screen Caputre, it could help you capture anything and offer a built-in editor. I'm using it, it is easy to use, even for a novice. I think it is pretty good. Hope it could help.
