Which portion of the network layer address does a router use to forward packets?

In theory, the part that indicates the network. In IP networks, this is the first part of the IP address. The size of the "network" part may vary; therefore, the router checks the address against different rows of its routing table; if, for example, a certain row specifies a network of 10.0.5.0 /24, that means that the first 24 bits must be compared, so the router will compare whether the first 24 bits match.

Why imei is used in mobiles?

Hi, I dont know when exactly IMEI is used with the network. But I guess... might be for Identification process, for ex,.. to provide your Mobile a way to get identified with the network so that network would route the call/messages or any kind of services that are availed to you ( You must know it is a unique number ). Again, it is used when you dont have sim but only the phone with you. That time you must be knowing that you can make an Emergency call without SIM! This emergency call happens because of your IMEI as it identifes itself with the network. However... IMEI is optional for emergency call in ..... country but necessary in ..... countries! Moreover, it will be used when your Mobile has been stolen. In that case you can approach the network operator to bar your mobile usage.. I mean to make your mobile a garbage of no use. Hope you have got your answer!!! Basavaraj Bennur Bengaluru Hi, I dont know when exactly IMEI is used with the network. Does having two network cards increase internet speed?

Simply having two network cards does not increase you internet speed. If those cards are connected to the Internet, they can increase your speed, your total speed being, in theory, the sum of the speeds of the connections attached to each of your two network cards. This setup however is problematic for home users, as requires a mechanism to balance the load on the two cards, can pose problems if you get to have multiple IP addresses etc. Most likely, your answer is "no". However, if you wish to connect to multiple ISP's and increase your network throughput that way, look into "load balancing" and "multi homing".
