If you are using the original power adapter, it isn't damaged, and just started getting this message, it is almost certainly the power receiver inside your laptop that has developed a bad connection with your motherboard. You can try applying some pressure to plug that you insert into the laptop and you may see the "plug" or "charging" icon replace the "battery" icon in your sys-tray because you've improved the broken connection. The laptop will need to be opened up and serviced by technician who can solder a new receiver to the mother board.

This is a design flaw on almost every laptop I've seen, other than MacBook. Apple replaced the very vulnerable, standard pin & barrel connection with magnetic coupling that will break away without damaging either laptop or power cord. You can also use a MacBook on your lap without worrying about covering up any airflow vents on the underside - the other major design flaw with practically every other laptop out there.

Whenever you are trying to categorize a device as Input or Output, think of how it looks from the computer. If the computer is transmitting data to it, it is an Output device. If the computer is receiving data from it, it is an Input device.

What does prolific-usb-to-serial comm port mean?

That means that you're using a USB to Serial adapter like this: http://sewelldirect.com/usbtoserial.asp Prolific is one of the companies that makes USB to Serial chipsets, and when you are using one of their adapters it will show up on your computer like that. Many newer computer do not have serial ports on them so you need a USB to Serial adapter to be able to use serial devices with your computer. If you have a laptop and you're using a docking station then it might have a USB to Serial adapter inside of it which is using the Prolific chipset.

Is a computer fan input or output?

Both, depending which fan you mean, as most computers will have several. Generally speaking the cpu fan blows air down onto the heatsink. The power supply fan blows air out. If you have separate case fans they will probably suck air in, which therefore creates airflow through the case in concert with the power supply fan.

Is modem that enables telecommuters to communicate with their office is an example of computer output?

If by "computer output" you mean data (whether documents, music files, etc.) then the answer is No. Even if you mean is it a computer output "device", then again the answer is No. It passes data between computers, and since "output" involves putting information into forms directly accessible to humans, a modem is not an output device.

Audio out is a shortened form of "Audio Output". In computer terms, it is where sound in your computer is sent out of your computer. What part of the computer receives signal from outside the computer and transfer them into the computer?

If you mean Data, then the part that receives the signal would be the network adapter. This could be the wireless adapter on a laptop or the Ethernet port on a regular desktop computer. Although, now a days most have both options. If you mean power, the power supply draws the power from your outlet and sends that power through out the motherboard and to individual hard drives, optical drives, SD card readers..etc
