"LSI" refers to the practice of putting more components, more transistors, and
more functions on a single chip. This reduces the number of packages required to
do the job, and reduces the circuit-board area required for the device.
The microprocessor in any household PC or laptop is an example of a large-scale-
integrated circuit.
And by the way, while we're on the subject, they're "integrated" circuits, not "intergrated".

∙ 14y agoWhile it is typically possible to perform the same thing that an IC can do, using transistors, the industry has pretty well established that IC's are more efficient in terms of space, capacity, speed and energy consumption.
integrated circuits are typically nothing more than a specially designed package containing many micro-miniaturized transistors and other semiconductors.

An IC takes up less space, in many applications is cheaper, and requires less labor to install.
