There is a few great things about variable length subnet masking VLSM. The main great thing about it is that you can get a membership.

What is the characteristic of classful routing?

Classful routing protocols do not carry subnet mask information on their routing updates. This makes them unsuitable for hierarchical addressing that require Variable Length Subnet Mask (VLSM) and discontiguous network. Classless routing protocols do carry subnet mask information on their routing updates.RIP v1 and IGRP are classful routing protocols. RIP v2, EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP are classless routing protocol. When running a classful routing protocol on a network, make sure you use the same subnet mask everywhere. Otherwise, routing black holes can occur.Classless routing protocols extend the standard Class A, B, or C IP addressing scheme by using a subnet mask or mask length to indicate how routers must interpret an IP network ID. Classless routing protocols include the subnet mask along with the IP address when advertising routing information. Subnet masks representing the network ID are not restricted to those defined by the address classes, but can contain a variable number of high-order bits. Such subnet mask flexibility enables you to group several networks as a single entry in a routing table, significantly reducing routing overhead. Classless routing protocols includes RIP v2 and OSPF, Border Gateway Protocol version 4 (BGP4) and Intermediate System to Intermediate System (IS-IS).

Why you use vlsm?

Variable Length Subnet Mask (VLSM) is the new and efficient way to create Networks as compared to the old Fixed Length subnet mask. In Fixed length subnet masks networks there are 2 categories - the basic is A,B & C subnets and the second is fixed subnets that are created from these basic subnets. But in either of the methods there is lots of IP wastage, as different sections of the network will vary in the number of hosts connected to that network. Wastage is more in the first classic way of networks. It is minimized with the help of subnetting, but the problem still exists as some network segments may contain very less hosts but has to use the same subnet masks as the entire network and thus waste IPs. While when we use VLSM different network segments may contain different subnets as per there requirement and while even doing so they will still be able to interact with each other using routers. The 2 main benefits of VLSM are - 1) Because of different subnet masks the broadcast from one subnet is not transmitted to other subnets. Thus saves lots of bandwidth. 2) It saves lots of IP,which is wasted instead. Hope This helps Happy Networking -- By MyNarutoAnime

What is datagram Subnet?

datagram subnet is connection oriented network.

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of classless address?

advantage : classless protocols send subnet information. This allows you to create discontagious network with any given classful network address

What is the motivation behind using a custom subnet mask versus the default subnet mask?

A default subnet mask gives you classful addressing on octet boundaries. A non-default subnet mask implies that you are subnetting a larger network into several smaller ones.

What is a static length subnet mask?

That probably refers to a situation where a larger network was divided into smaller subnets, but all subnets have the same size - as opposed to VLSM (variable length subnet masks), where subnets can have different sizes. That probably refers to a situation where a larger network was divided into smaller subnets, but all subnets have the same size - as opposed to VLSM (variable length subnet masks), where subnets can have different sizes.

Why are IP address classes needed?

The short answer is that they aren't. Class A,B,C networks are outdated; most everyone uses classless networks these days. Check out CIDR or "Variable Length Subnet Masking". Classful IP addresses were a shortsighted construct. They did not scale well and eventually were replaced.

What is the meaning of the acronym VLSM?

There are several different meanings. Some include Variable Length Subnet Mask, Vietnam Logistics and Support Medal, Variable and Level Set Methods in Computer Vision, Virtual Laboratory for the Study of Mechanics and Virable Land Subnet Mask.

What is the subnet mask of 135.210.195.112?

This is a Class B address. So if classful addressing scheme we can say that the default mask of any Class B address is 255.255.0.0. But it may not be always this. There is a concept called VLSM (variable length subnet mask) with which we have the option to give different subnet masks.

Which feature allows you to create additional subnetworks at the expense of fewer hosts on each segment?

Subnet masking

What is subnet mask?

A subnet mask is something that divides the IP address into a host and network. It is a very confusing thing but it will also let you see the IP address of the user.

What is net masking?

subnet maskis the network address plis the bit reseived to identfying subnetworking. a mask used to determine what subnet an IP address belongto. An IP address has two components, the network address and the host address. sub netting enables the network administrator to futher divde the host part of the address into two or more subnet.

The method of breaking up ip address space into address ranges of flexible size is called?

It is called as VLSM (Variable Length Subnet Mask) which is a type of Classless Inter-domain Routing(CIDR). Most commonly it's referred to as subnetting.
