Motherboard
connects all the pieces together
Hard Disk
long term memory,stores everything, including files, data...etc
advantage over RAM: data remains even after the computer shuts down.
Disadvantage: Very slow compared to RAM
RAM
(stands for Random Access Memory)
short term memory - When data is needed it is loaded from the hard disk to the RAM for much faster processing.
Advantage over hard disk: Much faster
Disadvantage: loses data when computer shuts down
CPU
(Central Processing unit)
The "brain" of your computer, allows it to "think"
Graphics card:
Helps the CPU in processing graphics.
Example of these components working together:
1. A user opens up a video game ()
2. The CPU processes the click, and loads the video game from the hard disk to the RAM.
3. The user starts playing, the CPU and the Graphics Card now process everything in the game (player movement, environment, etc...)
4. when the player finishes, the data is removed from the RAM.
*of course, the component that connects all these things together is the motherboard
