It completely depends on what your primary use for the desktop is.
Broad scope:
1. How big is the hard drive?
2. How much memory (RAM) does it have?
3. How fast is the processor (CPU)?
Well, these factors would be chosen by my consumer's needs and/or the proposed application. Mobility and ergonomics may rank high on a touch tablet device used for onsite troubleshooting, while performance and cost may be more of a factor for back office computer fielding. If all factors were considered equal, (which they never will) first would be cost, second performance and third reliability. Cost, whether upfront or on the backside due to low reliability, is a driving force in all business. If I were to pay too much upfront it would take capital away from another investment. If my purchase were unreliable, I would pay more in maintenance, down time and possible replacement. Finally, we come to performance, if I or those in my employ cannot perform the tasks necessary or not in efficient time, I will lose money due to poor use of time and/or incomplete or poorly performed tasks.

NO. Computer hardware is a completely different part of the computer system from the Software. Software is not a physical Item like hardware.
Software. Short and sweet. Hardware needs software to work.
No, McAfee virus protection is not hardware. Instead, it is a software program. Hardware is the physical parts of a computer, but software is computer code. So an antivirus program is software, not hardware.
Computer science involves studying expressions, structures and feasibility. Computer Engineering has software and hardware. The hardware aspect focuses on the physical hardware of the computer. While the software aspect focuses on the system software. Ê
Computer hardware is the physical parts of the computer. This is in contrast to software, which is the non physical programs that the hardware runs.
Both are vital and inseparable to a computer. Without software, the computer cannot do any useful work. Without hardware, the software has nothing to run it.
both a hardware and software

The OS is a software that manages the computer hardware resources and provides common services for the computer programs. The operating system is a very important component of the system software in a computer system.
Yes; without it your computer might as well be a giant paperweight! Without software hardware is useless.
