1. It keeps cables out of the way of moving parts (such as drive bays) so they cannot get snagged.
2. It stops the cables moving - preventing short circuits if a cable is worn.
3. It keeps cables away from thermal hotspots such as the CPU or GPU heatsink, which can reach very high temperatures, making the cable isolation brittle
4. It keeps cables from blocking the airflow, required to reach the heatsinks and hard drives. (This also helps keeping the noise down.)
