Best Answer

1. It keeps cables out of the way of moving parts (such as drive bays) so they cannot get snagged.

2. It stops the cables moving - preventing short circuits if a cable is worn.

3. It keeps cables away from thermal hotspots such as the CPU or GPU heatsink, which can reach very high temperatures, making the cable isolation brittle

4. It keeps cables from blocking the airflow, required to reach the heatsinks and hard drives. (This also helps keeping the noise down.)

1)Use tie wraps to secure cables and cords so that they do not block airflow across the processor or get in the way of fans turning

2)Many cases have a vent on the botton front of the case and carpet can obstruct airflow into this vent.

Can you wrap computer cables inside your case with UV reactive Gaffer tape if you have a UV cold cathodes in the case?

You can, yes, and your cable wraps will then glow. However, this should only be done if you never plan to re-use your cables. The force of taking gaffer tape off cables can break the wires inside. As always, be very careful when routing cables to allow air flow and avoid getting them in the way of moving parts like fans.

Another advantage of serial ATA is the thin cables don't hinder airflow inside a casde as much as the wide parellel ATA cables do.

What is the purpose of tying power cords and cables together before closing the computer case?

Tying the cables together inside the case allows the internal air flow to be less restricted. There by lowering the temperature and keeping the components that aren't directly cooled cooler. It also gives you more room to work when you open the case again.

Where are hard disks normally found?

The hard disk or "hard drive" is inside the computer, usually in the front. It is a rectangular object 4" wide, by 5 3/4" long, by 1" thick. It will be mounted to the "case" by 4 screws. It will have two cables attached to the back of it... on older computers, one of the cables will be flat, and wide ("ribbon cable"). On newer computers both cables will be about the same size.Look for the soft one instead...
