The Logical Link Control specifies the following mechanisms

1. for addressing stations across the medium

2. for controlling the exchange of data between two users.

There are three types of services provided by the Logical Link Layer. They are

1. Connection mode service - A logical connection is set up between two users.

2. Acknowledged connectionless service- No connections are involved. But data grams are acknowledged.

3. Unacknowledged connectionless service- Operates in datagram style. No guarantee for the delivery of data. The service does not include flow control or error control mechanisms.

What OSI layer is 802.2 LLC Specified at?

layer 2

What layer is supdivided into two sub layers in the OSI model?

Layer 2 is divided into the LLC and MAC sublayers.

What is a characteristic of the LLC sublayer?

In computer networking there is a seven layer OSI model and the LLC or logical link control layer is a data communication protocol layer which is the upper sublayer of the second OSI layer known as the data link layer. The main characteristic of the LLC sublayer is that it provides multiplexing mechanisms that allow for a number of different network protocols like IPX, AppleTalk and IP to work over the same network as well as allow them to exist together within a multipoint network.

Difference between media access control and LLC?

* MAC sublayer(802.3): defines how to transmit data on physical layer * LLC sublayer(802.2): responsible for identifying different protocol logically & encapsulate them.

What layer arrange signals into logical units of information called frame?

Layer 2 or the 'Data' layer of the OSI model encapsulates either 'bits' from the physical layer (1)- moving up the TCP stack or 'Packets' from the Network layer (3)- going down the the stack. 7 - Application Layer DATA 6 - Presentation Layer DATA 5 - Session Layer DATA 4 - Transport Layer SEGMENT 3 - Network Layer PACKET 2 - Data Layer (Incorporating LLC and MAC) FRAME 1 - Physical Layer BIT A good nmemonic for remembering the data encapsulation in the OSI model is 'Don't Some Peolple Fry Bacon' - Data, Segments, Packets, Bits.
