One of the most well-known guides to computer ethics is the Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics. Here are some of the ways to violate it:
1. Harming others using a computer. This includes not only physical harm, such as conspiring with others online to kill someone, or even literally using a computer as a weapon, but also stealing from someone, defaming others, cyberbullying, spam, etc.
2. Interfering with another person's computer work. That would include spreading viruses, or deliberately causing a computer to malfunction in order to interfere with the work of another.
3. Spying on others. That would include reading other people's emails or other computer data without their knowledge or permission, unless of course the goal is to stop computer crime.
4. Using a computer to steal from others. That includes leaking confidential information, insider trading, fraud, storing stolen intellectual property, piracy, and more.
5. Using a computer to spread lies or misinformation.That includes cyberbullying, reputation attacks, and fraud.
6. Copying or using stolen software. That includes file-sharing, buying bootleg copies of software, making copies of software from the legal copies of others,
7. Using other people's computer resources without proper compensation or authorization. That would include using other people's accounts and passwords, as well as using someone's computer without their permission.
8. Claiming credit for other people's intellectual output. This includes plagiarism and taking the sole credit of a jointly produced work.
9. Disregarding the social consequences of the program you are writing or the system you are designing. This would include writing violent games for children, promoting hate and violence, promoting predatory sexual behaviors, etc.
10. Not using computers in ways that ensure consideration and respect for your fellow humans. That includes disregarding common etiquette, bashing newbies, flaming others, snooping, etc.
