One of them or both would not get an ip address. If on of the computers has Linux and another one has windows (any), Linux system will receive an ip address, and windows will not. If both are Linux most likely you will see the message about conflicting ip addresses (the same for two win xp or any same OSes).

Usually server OSes win when compiting for the same ip address (same hardware address gets the same ip address).

here hardware address means physical or the MAC address as the hardware addresss of three kinds 1):- static , 2):- dynamic ,3):- configurable

in case of the static it is impossible while in case of the others two there is a chance

of conflict and both stations may not take part in the in the communication due to conflict

What is the difference between hardware address and IPv4 address?

The hardware address or MAC address is encoded on the NIC by the manufacturer for unique identification of the NIC. This cannot be changed.... The IPv4 address is an internet address usually assigned by a DHCP server for each computer on a network. This address can be changed.

Are Mac addresses dynamically assigned?

No, MAC Addresses are fixed per network interface card or NIC. The MAC address is the Media Access Control address and is the hardware address of the network device to which your IP address, e.g. 192.168.1.3 is assigned. You can identify the vendor of your network card from its MAC address, e.g. all Intel NIC cards may begin with 00-15.

Are IP address' assigned to the router or the location of the router?

the router is assigned an ip address.

IP address Mac address?

A media access control address (MAC address) is a unique identifier assigned to network interfaces for communications on the physical network segment. Everything attached to any computer network has a permanent MAC address that moves with the hardware no matter where it is connected.IP address is the current interface address for your local system to the larger public internet. The IP address can be STATIC (permanently assigned) or DYNAMIC (changes every time you connect to the internet). The alphabetic names are for humans. They are translated to the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx format for the computers to use. When you type in the name of a website the name is looked up by your browser. The MAC address is for hardware. The IP address is for communication on the internet.

What address do manufacturers of network adapters burn into their products in order to uniquely identify them?

A "MAC ADDRESS" (Media Access Control address), or an EHA (Ethernet Hardware Address), also known simply as "hardware address".

What is the difference between a hardware address and IPv4 address?

Hardware address is the MAC address. IPv4 is the IP address. The MAC address is assigned to each network device at the time it's manufactured and does not change. The IP address is manually assigned and can be changed.

Where does mac address originate?

It is assigned to the specific hardware device from the factory so it is supposedly unique. However it can easily be changed via software.

Can you have a dynamic Mac address?

In general, the MAC address is tied to a specific piece of hardware and does not change. It is possible, however, under certain circumstances to change the MAC address. MAC addresses are most often assigned by the manufacturer of a network interface card (NIC) and are stored in its hardware, the card's read-only memory, or some other firmware mechanism. If assigned by the manufacturer, a MAC address usually encodes the manufacturer's registered identification number and may be referred to as the burned-in address. It may also be known as an Ethernet hardware address (EHA), hardware address or physical address. Although intended to be a permanent and globally unique identification, it is possible to change the MAC address on most modern hardware. Changing MAC addresses is necessary in network virtualization. In this case, the MAC address of the actual NIC is hidden from the network and the network only sees the MAC assigned to the virtual NIC - which can be configured, with some finesse, to be dynamic. It can also be used in the process of exploiting security vulnerabilities. This is called MAC spoofing.

What is the address of hardware represented?

The MAC address. Usually expressed in the format 00-08-54-D4-74-45. This is a permanent physically assigned number that is given to any device by it's manufacture.

What is the importance of Mac addresses?

MAC address is a unique identifier assigned to most network adapters or network interface cards (NICs) by the manufacturer for identification, and used in the media access control protocol sub-layer. If assigned by the manufacturer, a MAC address usually encodes the manufacturer's registered identification number. It may also be known as an Ethernet Hardware Address, hardware address, adapter address, or physical address.

How do you use accidentally actual actually address in a sentence?

You can't or shouldn't use accidentally, actual, actually, and address in the same sentence, because you'll be repetitive using actual and actually in one statement.I actually wrote the wrong address, accidentally, before I found the company's actual address.

How deciphers IP?

Decipher the IP address means, obtain IP address using Hardware address, and basically we use RARP(Reverse address resolution protocol) to find out the IP address from hardware address.
