It probably needs to be defragmented and you should run a scandisk too. Also, make sure you have ample free disk space so windows can use lots of virtual memory. I would leave at least a gig free.
I would say, you may have too many things installed, not enough RAM (random acess memory) or too much temporary internet files. You may want to download a free program called Ccleaner. It erases Temp. Internet Files and speeds up your computer.
