A network is an information system usually localized within a set area (buildings, or multiple sites). These multiple sites have terminals or work stations which can access the network amongst them. The mainframe or server is what manages the network through hardware and physical backing-up of the network itself.

A network storage server is a piece of equipment that is on the network. The server is used for additional storage for the computers and other items on the network.
SERVER IS A DEVICE THAT IS USED TO SHARE HARDWARE AS WELL AS SOFTWARE RESOURCES. NODES IS ALSO KNOWN AS WORKSTATION.
work station is a server which is help us to connect network
I would daresay it is short for dedicated server. A server that is used only as a server, not as a workstation. This is done for stability; on a large network, this is usually more important than saving one workstation.

To connect a Windows XP or Windows 2000 workstation to a Microsoft network server, you need a functional network interface card (NIC) to enable network communication. Additionally, the workstation must have the appropriate network protocols installed, typically TCP/IP, and be configured with the correct IP settings. You'll also need to ensure that the workstation is part of the same workgroup or domain as the network server. Lastly, valid user credentials (username and password) are required to access shared resources on the server.
The Domain Controller (Server)
Each individual workstation would control its own access. Whereas in a domain environment the server would control access to each individual workstation.
A proxy server is a server that acts as an intermediary between a workstation user and the Internet so that the enterprise can ensure security, administrative control, and caching service. A proxy server is associated with a gateway server that separates the enterprise network from the outside network and a firewall server that protects the enterprise network from outside intrusion.
A workstation - is a dedicated terminal on a network powered by a file-server. The workstation doesn't usually have the ability to transfer files to floppy disk - instead, all work is saved on the file-server. All software on the network is also held on the file-server, and each user accesses the program(s) they need by logging-on. A typical system would be a network of UNIX terminals.
