In computing, an input device is any peripheral (piece of computer hardware equipment) used to provide data and control signals to an information processing system such as a computer or other information appliance.

An output device is any piece of computer hardware equipment used to communicate the results of data processing carried out by an information processing system (such as a computer) to the outside world.

Input device is a device that sends data to the computer. Such device is a mouse, keyboard, microphone, camera and a scanner.

Output device is a device that outputs data. It receives data from the computer and does something with it. Such device is a monitor, speaker and a printer.

Even though some devices have both way communication with the computer they are still either an input or an output device.
