It depends. are you talking about buying like add-on cards? buying a headset? upgrading to a blu-ray? or building an entire computer? Since you weren't very specific, i'll answer all 4.

1. For add on cards (sound cards, graphics cards, etc) there aren't very many limits , but there are some. Such as power supply (do NOT want to be under powered), and slot availability (pci/pci-e).

2. for headsets, as long as the manufacturer of said headset makes the drivers for whatever operating system you're running, you're good.

3. blu-ray drives, or any other optical drives, don't have very many limits either. Make sure your power supply has the proper cables to provide power, make sure you have the proper data cables to connect to your mobo. and of course make sure it fits in your case.

4. Building a computer is obviously more complicated than the other 3 but not too difficult at all. i would say start with deciding which processor you want and then build off that. (cpu cooler if necessary, mo.bo., ram, hdd/ssd, graphics card, odd, power supply, etc.) for the processor it really all depends on what you are going to be doing with said computer. if you are only going to be word processing or Surfing the web, a core i3 would be sufficient. however the other extreme would be video editing and 3D modeling for which i would say ATLEAST a core i7 2600k, but more likely a i7 3930k. if you're somewhere in between well get something in between.

Hope I helped,
