Practice of the enciphering and deciphering of messages in secret code in order to render them unintelligible to all but the intended receiver. Cryptography may also refer to the art of cryptanalysis, by which cryptographic codes are broken. Collectively, the science of secure and secret communications, involving both cryptography and cryptanalysis, is known as cryptology. The principles of cryptography are today applied to the encryption of http://www.answers.com/topic/fax, http://www.answers.com/topic/television-tv, and computer http://www.answers.com/topic/network-computer communications. In particular, the secure exchange of computer data is of great importance to banking, government, and commercial communications. See also http://www.answers.com/topic/cryptography-1.

cryptography is a practice of hiding the actual meaning of the message that we intend to deliver to the opponent using secret encryption and decryption codes.

say for example "I Love You". it is sometimes said as 143 in numbers but everyone know this. in cryptography, an encryption code and decryption code will be awared to both the parties and say for '143', we mention '134' and the decryption code would be second comes third or so.........

the encryption codes and decryption codes would be used to make the message very difficult to understand for anyone other that the both the parties.
