As i understand, emycin is a framework for making consult-based systems. Its based on the structure of Mycin. its not an expert system, but a tool form making experts systems. Sadly, its a conclusion i got from reading stuff on the net. Its not accurate and dont have any biography. Hope it works for you.

What are differences between weak methods and expert system technology?

A general-purpose search mechanism could rely on elementary reasoning steps to find complete solutions and could use weak knowledge about domain. However, when weak methods failed, researchers finally realised that the only way to deliver practical results was to solve typical cases in narrow areas of expertise by making large reasoning steps.
