Is there any way using http including stuff a web browser receives to ask a computer what its LAN IP address is?

Darn it i figured out one solution. Send the computer a java applet that somehow figures out the computer's LAN IP address and then connects to my server and reports back with the ip address. Seems a little too complicated, but here's one implementation: http://ip-lookup.net/index.php that's what i want. But are there any simpler solutions ? like maybe theres already a potocol for doing this or maybe idk something easier...
