The CPU, or Central Processing Unit performs the calculations and logic functions of the computer. CPU's only perform the most basic of functions, such as adding the contents of a memory location to the contents of a CPU "register", or comparing the contents of one register to the contents of another register and "jump" on a specified condition such as "equal to", "greater than" or "less than". CPU's are also able to initiate transfer of large blocks of data, read or write data to/from peripheral devices, and in general, watch over system functions. Of course, this is an oversimplification of the power and function of the CPU, but it gives you an idea of what is going on. CPU's have the capacity to perform many low level functions that are enhanced when added together into an application. If done correctly, the entire process is transparent to the user and all you see is a well designed application. The heatsink and the cpu needs a fan to cool them off

The control unit and arthematic unit of a computer are jointly known as the central processing unit (CPU). The CPU is the brain of any computer system. In human body all major decisions are taken by the brain and the other parts of the body function as diercted by the brain. Similarly, in a computer system, all major calculations and comparisons are made inside the CPU and the CPU is also responsible for activating and cntrolling the operations of other units of a computer.

What is the purpose or functions of CPU?

The central processing is the hardware within a computer system which carries out the instruction of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetical, logical, and input/output operations of the system. The CPU plays a role somewhat analogous to the brain in the computer.

What is the role of Central Processing Unit in a Computer?

The CPU of a computer is the hardware within a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetical, logical, and input/output operations of the system.

What CPU and what role does it play in a computer?

A CPU is the main component in all computers. It runs your computer

Which computer component controls the hardware and enables you to tell computer what to do?

The CPU (Central Processing Unit) assigns tasks to the hardware within the computer.

What des CPU stand for?

CPU stands for central processing unit. It refers to the part of a computer that processes instructions within a program or operating system code.

What is the role of RAM?

The role of RAM or random access memory in computer data processing is to hold calculations and information. Once the system is restarted or power is lost, the information within the RAM is lost.

What part of the computer executes instructions to to process information?

The Central Processing Unit, or CPU is responsible for carrying out the instructions of a computer program. Playing the role of the "brain", the CPU carries out the basic arithmetical, logic and input/output operations of the system. You can read more about the CPU here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_processing_unit

How would you describe the functions of CPU?

The function of the CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the heart of the computer. Everything the computer needs to do has to go through the CPU. The CPU tells the computer what to do, when to do it, and how to do it.

What is logic unit in CPU?

It performs arithmetic and logic operations within the microprocessor.

What is the purpose of the CPU in computer?

CPU stands for central processing unit. As the name implies, the CPU processes everything the computer does and handles everything that goes on in a computer. The CPU is often referred to as the brain of the computer since everything goes through the CPU first. The purpose of the CPU is to read machine language and do what it is told by it. The machine code are the directions on what the CPU should do, but the CPU is needed in order to read this code.

I would have to say the CPU, the CPU is needed with any computer. If the CPU doesn't have a fan or heat sink it'll kill your computer, kinda like your brain
