The waterfall model is a sequential software development process, in which progress is seen as flowing steadily downwards (like a waterfall) through the phases of Conception, Initiation, Analysis, Design (validation), Construction, Testing and maintenance. The unmodified "waterfall model". Progress flows from the top to the bottom, like a waterfall.

It should be readily apparent that the waterfall development model has its origins in the manufacturing and construction industries; highly structured physical environments in which after-the-fact changes are prohibitively costly, if not impossible. Since no formal software development methodologies existed at the time, this hardware-oriented model was simply adapted for software development. Ironically, the use of the waterfall model for software development essentially ignores the 'soft' in 'software'. The first formal description of the waterfall model is often cited to be an article published in 1970 by Winston W. Royce (1929-1995), although Royce did not use the term "waterfall" in this article. Ironically, Royce was presenting this model as an example of a flawed, non-working model (Royce 1970). This is in fact the way the term has generally been used in writing about software development-as a way to criticize a commonly used software practice.

Difference between water fall model incremental model?

Water fall modelwaterfall model always attempt to start with full requirementsWaterfall model is linear process flow execution. Each five framework activities in sequentially flow beginning with communication and culminating with deployment. In this linear process you can't go back.Doesn't response to resources.Inefficient used of resources. The waterfall model some time called the classic life cycle as well as linear process model/sequential model. In waterfall model more time spend in documentingIncremental modelIncremental model is process of repetitions developed in smaller chunks. An iterative life cycle model doesn't attempt to start with full requirements. This process is repeated producing a new version of software for each cycle of the model. In this incremental process you can go back.we are build the product step by step. W e can track the defects at early stages. This avoid the down word flow of the defects. In iterative model less time spend on documenting.example: Agile,XP (Extreme programming),scrum.

What is the main limitation of the water fall model?

The model implies that you should attempt to complete a given stage before moving on to the next stage Does not account for the fact that requirements constantly change. It also means that customers can not use anything until the entire system is complete. The model makes no allowances for prototyping. It implies that you can get the requirements right by simply writing them down and reviewing them. The model implies that once the product is finished, everything else is maintenance.

Advantages of waterfall model in detail?

The waterfall model is the oldest and most widely used model in the field of software development. There are certain advantages of the waterfall model, which causes it to be the most widely used model as yet. Some of them can be listed as under.Needless to mention, it is a linear model and of course, linear models are the most simple to be implemented. The amount of resources required to implement this model is minimal. One great advantage of the waterfall model is that documentation is produced at every stage of the waterfall model development. This makes the understanding of the product designing procedure simpler. After every major stage of software coding, testing is done to check the correct running of the code.

What is difference between incremental model and spiral model?

spiral model is just like incremental model but in spiral emphasize is on risk analysis.

What is E-R data model?

The Entity-Relationship Model is often referred to as a semantic data model, because it more closely resembles real world scenarios than, e.g., the relational model. . In the ER model, we model the concept of "Instructors." In the relational model we deal with names and phone numbers. . In the ER model, there is a distinction between entities (objects) and relationships between such entities. In the relational model, both concepts are represented by relations.

No, water fall model in software engineering is not a flexible model . Waterfall model have certain limitations like we can not go back into earlier phase .
