Indents

The distance between the text and the left and right edges of the pages defined left and right margins and indentation. Field, as you learn from the lesson, 13 are usually applied to an entire document or a greater part of it. For small fragments of text, such as lines and paragraphs, use indentation.

The easiest way to indent - use a horizontal line and a mouse. In order to derive the line (or hide it), click View -> Ruler. The numbers on the ruler indicate the distance from the left margin in inches. Fig. 10. 1 shows the range and variety of its labels, which are needed to determine the indentation, as well as various types of padding.

Indentations are used to separate paragraphs. To indent a paragraph, place the cursor anywhere within the selected paragraph. If you set the padding for a few paragraphs - select them (otherwise, the new padding will be installed for new paragraphs that you type, starting from the point of entry). Then drag the indent on the ruler to the desired position. As you drag the marker vertical dashed line passing through the document will show the new position of the indentation.

• To change the indent the first line of a paragraph, drag the First Line Indent to the desired position.

• To change the indentation of all lines of a paragraph except the first, drag the ledge to the desired position (and thus to a paragraph can apply the effect of "Orphans").

• To change the indentation of all lines of a paragraph, drag the Left Indent to the desired position.

• To change the indentation of the right edge of the paragraph, drag the Right Indent marker to the desired position.

You can quickly increase or decrease (1 / 2 inch) left margin of the current paragraph by clicking the Increase Indent Decrease Indent on the Formatting toolbar. The fastest to indent the first line of the paragraph - put the cursor at the beginning of the line and press the Tab key.

Setting indents using the Paragraph dialog box

Word allows you to set indents using the Paragraph dialog box. To do this, follow these steps.

1. Click Format -> Paragraph to open the Paragraph dialog box, then click on the counterfoil Indents and Spacing tab (Figure 10. 2).

2. In the Indents click on the arrow next to the text boxes on the left and the right to increase or decrease the indentation. To highlight the first line of a paragraph with an indent or to create a dangling line, click on the arrow text box, first line, then specify the indentation in the text box on. Area sample page shows how to look in the document the current settings.

3. Click OK. New installations will be applied to all the selected paragraphs, or to the new text.

Alignment - the formatting is a means in which the left and right edges of text lines are located along the relatively vertical lines. Word offers four types of alignment.

• Left - aligns the left edges of lines.

• Align Right - aligns the right edges of the rows.

• width - align both left and right edges of lines.

• Center - sets the center of each line between the left and right margins.

If you are using to change the alignment of the dialog box, select the paragraph, and then do the following.

1. Click Format -> Paragraph to open the Paragraph dialog box, and, if necessary, click on the counterfoil Indents and Spacing tab.

2. From the drop-down list, select the desired alignment.

3. Click OK.

Tool wrap automatically breaks each line of a paragraph, when it reaches the right margin. Word offers several ways to transfer control of lines. You can prevent a line break between the two words, so that these words will always be together in one line. These methods are particularly useful when changing the indentation or alignment, as this often changes the position of the transfer line.

By default, Word breaks the string into place a space or a hyphen. To prevent a line break, insert non-breaking space or a non-breaking hyphen instead of the usual. To insert non-breaking hyphen, press <Ctrl Shift - (hyphen)>. To insert non-breaking space, press <Ctrl Shift npo6en>.

You can use a possible transfer to specify where it is possible to divide the word if necessary. This is useful for long words, which are at the end of the line, because if the long word will be rescheduled for the following line at the end of the previous line will remain many gaps. Possible transfer will not be visible until until some words will not pass on the right margin. Then the transfer, and the next line goes only part of the word, which is beyond the hyphen. To insert a possible transfer, press <Ctrl - (port)>.

Finally, you can start a new line in the same paragraph, press <Shift Enter>.
