∙ 13y agoThe prefix "Giga-" means billion. "Gigabyte" means a billion bytes, "Gigahertz" means a billion Hertz, and so on.
Note that to a computer, 1000 is not a round number, but 1024 (2^10) is. Therefore, "Giga-" usually refers to 1024*1024*1024 = 1,073,741,824.
