The first electronic computer predated this by 3 years in 1943, COLLUSUS. But had only one task of decyphering German codes during WWII. It was so secret, that everyone thought that ENIAC was the first, until de-classified.

∙ 11y agoENIAC is probably the most famous of that period. 1,000 times faster than anything that came before it, and nothing has ever surpassed this enormous leap in performance ever since. Construction began in 1943 and completion was announced on Valentine's Day 1946.
