just type ctrl-alt-del and when task manager comes up it will have a system monitor tab that shows memory and CPU usage (not sure if that was what you wanted)

You might want to try clicking START - RUN - and then type perfmon.msc in the COMMAND field. Follow the info found at http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/305610 for details on using perfmon or performance monitor.
