When you first start the computer you'll see the logo of your motherboard/computer brand and usually at the bottom says "Press (some key like F2) to enter Setup." That's the key to press.
The escape key
On power-up. You need to tap the escape key to stop the operating system loading, and enter the BIOS set-up screen.
H2 bios is a type of bios specifically made for notebooks.
The boot processes are displayed at start up. This stage often shows hardware information such as CPU and RAM. Soon after the computer will display an option for a BIOS menu via key F10. If this option is not selected the computer will automatically load the operation system (OS) or offer OS selections.
This signals that the computer is in a standby or "sleep" mode. Most parts of the hardware are turned off by the BIOS until a key on the keyboard is pressed or the mouse is moved.
Sorry to tell you, but your computer isn't recognizing the drive because your drive is dead. You have to buy a new hard drive and an operating system or a whole new computer. That ticking is a clear sign that the drive is dying, if the bios does not even see it, then at that point its already gone.

That would be the BIOS.
You can find your PC specs by going into BIOS. Most of the computers open BIOS when 'del' key is pressed on booting the system. BIOS contains all the hardware specs of the system.
The BIOS is used to manage simple devices (system BIOS), the BIOS is used to start the computer (startup BIOS), and the BIOS is used to change settings on the motherboard (CMOS setup).

All computers have to start from from something. If it makes more sense to call that something a Basic Input Output System or BIOS then no problem
BIOS stand for basic output input system, the purpose of the bios is to identify all components of the PC on start up. for more information I posted the bios article in the related links box below.
it uses bios first to boot when you start up you see dependind on the computer a bios screen witch is on the mother board you can update you bios, but make sure because its a risky move if its not nessesary dont update bios unless its needed back up your computer before you do this
